GambleAware recently released data from the National Gambling Treatment Service and the newly commissioned National Gambling Support Network, showcasing the positive impact of their treatment on individuals dealing with problem gambling.
Formerly known as ‘The National Gambling Treatment Service,’ the National Gambling Support Network offers free, confidential, and personalized support to those affected by gambling-related issues. Ten organizations spanning England, Scotland, and Wales provide this confidential treatment, along with early intervention and prevention services. Annually, approximately 7,000 people seek support, and the National Gambling Helpline answers around 44,000 calls.
According to the data released by GambleAware for 2022-23, the treatment has resulted in significant improvements for nine out of ten patients, with notable reductions in gambling problems.
Graham England, CEO of Ara Recovery for All, expressed admiration for the NGSN services, emphasizing their critical role in supporting individuals before gambling issues escalate. England described the teams behind these services as dedicated and life-changing for thousands of people across Great Britain.
The latest data commissioned through GambleAware further demonstrates the effectiveness and necessity of these tailored, community-focused interventions.
In late November, GambleAware launched a campaign to eradicate the stigma associated with problem gambling, encouraging individuals experiencing gambling harms to open up about their struggles.
