Slough Town FC Rebels and Epic Risk Management have joined forces to tackle the issue of gambling-related harm among young people. Together, they are introducing an educational programme for secondary schools, designed to raise awareness of the potential risks associated with gambling and promote responsible gambling practices.

Epic Risk Management, a global company operating in 22 countries, is committed to minimizing gambling harm through education. Their focus is on informing individuals about the potential pitfalls and regulations surrounding sports betting and gambling activities.

Led by Scott Davies, the First Team Player Manager of the Rebels, the core session of the programme will last approximately one hour. Davies will share his personal story, highlighting how gambling affected his life. The session will also include education on responsible gambling practices, as well as information about mental health support.

Davies, with extensive experience in delivering ‘lived experience’ sessions, has primarily worked with sectors most affected by gambling addiction. Schools are increasingly impacted due to the rise of online gaming among young people. To launch the programme, schools are invited to send a representative to observe Davies’ session at Arbour Park Stadium on November 9, 2023.

This partnership comes after Epic Risk Management’s ongoing collaboration with the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) to provide gambling harm awareness programmes to students at the University of Michigan. The company works with 75 universities, including the University of Michigan, in partnership with Entain Foundation US, to deliver these initiatives.

In addition, Epic Risk Management has recently entered a two-year partnership with The Hippodrome Casino. Together, they plan to launch a pilot staff training programme aimed at identifying and addressing gambling-related risks and harm within the casino setting. Workshops and group evaluation sessions will be conducted to train staff in reducing the risk of gambling harm.
