The Dutch Gambling Authority, Kansspelautoriteit (KSA), has released statistical findings showcasing the positive impact of the new online gambling regulations introduced in October. These measures were designed to enhance player protection, particularly regarding deposit limits and affordability checks.

One of the primary rules required players to contact operators before setting deposit limits exceeding €150 ($157) for young adults or €350 for adults per month. This aimed to increase awareness of responsible gambling habits. As a result, fewer than 50% of players now set such high limits, with many lowering them following provider contact.

Additionally, a new affordability check was implemented for deposits exceeding €300 (young adults) or €700 (adults). If a player cannot prove affordability, deposits are blocked for the remainder of the month. This rule has significantly reduced high-risk deposits, with figures dropping from 9.7% to 3.8% for adults and from 12% to 2.8% for young adults.

Since these changes, the average loss per player has fallen from €117 to €83, and the gross gaming revenue (BSR) of legal providers has decreased by 10%. More notably, excessive gambling has declined, with only 1% of players losing over €1,000 per month compared to 4% before the regulations. Furthermore, 91% of Dutch players now gamble exclusively with licensed operators, reinforcing the effectiveness of the KSA’s new policies.
