Macau, managed by the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau, has just released its monthly statistics for the entire year of 2023. The numbers are nothing short of impressive.

December, the last month of the year, capped it off with a phenomenal 433% annual increase in gross monthly income, amounting to MOP$18.6bn. This surge in revenue was mirrored throughout the year, thanks to the consistent rise in tourism rates.

The year started strong, with January experiencing an 83% increase in gross monthly income, reaching MOP$11.6bn (US$1.4bn) compared to the previous year. February showed a slightly smaller annual increase of 33%, resulting in a gross monthly income of MOP$10.3bn.

However, March was a game-changer. The numbers soared, with a staggering 247% increase in gross monthly income, totaling MOP$12.7bn. April continued the upward trend, with a remarkable 450% increase in gross monthly income, reaching MOP$14.7bn. At this point, the annual accumulated gross income rate of change had reached triple digits, with a 141% raise from the previous year.

May experienced a minor dip, but still boasted a substantial 366% increase, resulting in MOP$15.6bn. The summer months brought even more success, with June starting off the busy tourist season at MOP$15.2bn and an annual change of 514%.

July stole the spotlight, recording the largest increase of the year. Gross monthly income reached MOP$16.7bn, with a remarkable rate of change of 4,083%. This surge in tourism was clearly evident, with a 25% monthly increase and a jaw-dropping annual increase of 28,177% recorded by the Macau Statistics and Census Service (DSEC). Of the 2,759,544 tourists in July 2023, 1,910,371 hailed from mainland China.

August maintained the momentum, showing an exceptional 686% annual increase in gross monthly income to MOP$17.2bn. September experienced a slight dip but still recorded a positive 404% increase, reaching MOP$14.9bn. October took the crown for the highest monthly income of the year, with an increase of 400% to MOP$19.5bn.

November, the penultimate month of the year, displayed the largest increase among the winter months at 435% and MOP$16bn. Macau’s monthly statistics for 2023 paint a picture of remarkable growth and economic success. The consistent rise in revenue, driven by increasing tourism rates, sets the stage for a promising future.
