New survey results from the European Gaming and Betting Association reveal interesting insights into the knowledge and habits of Belgian gamblers. Out of the 1,000 participants aged 18-30, a staggering 93% were familiar with at least one legal gambling website, while 44% knew of an illegal one.

Digging deeper, it turns out that among the top 10 most recognized gambling sites, six were legal and four were illegal. This highlights that legal sites are more widely known, but the gap between the two is not significant. These findings come at a relevant time, as the Belgian Government recently implemented advertising restrictions for licensed gambling companies.

In terms of actual gambling behavior, the survey found that 53% of participants had gambled in the past three years, with men making up 65% of that group and women 35%. Most participants, 62%, gambled once a month or less frequently, while only 13% played daily.

Interestingly, the majority, 90%, of gamblers opted for legal websites, but one-third admitted to having tried illegal gaming sites. When it comes to distinguishing between legal and illegal websites, only 36% of participants said they were confident in recognizing the difference.

Regarding advertising, 46% of participants supported the new restrictions, while 42% were in favor of a complete ban on gambling advertisements for games of chance. It’s worth noting that the survey sample size of 1,000 is relatively small, but these findings give us valuable insights into the world of online gambling in Belgium.
