Paddy Power, owned by Flutter, is set to shut down 21 of its retail betting shops in Ireland, as confirmed by reports in the Irish media. Despite the closures, Paddy Power will still maintain a strong presence in the country with 230 retail shops remaining. Unfortunately, the closures will affect 78 staff members, some of whom may face redundancies. However, the company has assured that it will offer redeployment opportunities to the majority of the affected employees within its existing estate or nearby locations. The decision to close these shops is primarily due to lease expirations and early terminations. David Newton, CCO at Paddy Power, expressed that the closure of underperforming shops is a necessary step to ensure efficiency and meet the changing needs of their customers. He also emphasized that the decision should not reflect on the hard-working shop colleagues, thanking them for their professionalism during this challenging situation. Paddy Power is actively providing support to all affected employees.
