Responsible Wagering Australia (RWA) joins NSW GambleAware Week 2023, advocating for responsible gambling practices. This year’s theme, ‘What’s gambling costing you?’ aims to raise awareness about support services available.

Kai Cantwell, CEO of Responsible Wagering Australia, emphasizes the importance of this event. It encourages individuals to reflect on their gambling habits, reach out to loved ones, and spread awareness about available assistance.

RWA members actively participate by featuring GambleAware Week promotions on their apps and websites. Customers placing bets will encounter these promotions, complete with links to support services.

Cantwell commends RWA members for surpassing government requirements in ensuring customer safety. He also emphasizes the issue of illegal offshore operators enticing Australians with attractive offers. These operators evade laws, taxes, and consumer protection, posing a potential threat of up to $3 billion to the Australian economy from 2022 to 2027.

Illegitimate operators engage in practices like withholding withdrawals and targeting underage individuals. Cantwell urges consumers to verify the legality of websites at ACMA.gov.au and supports government efforts in combating illegal offshore providers.
