A São Paulo court has mandated the blocking of 15 online betting sites following a public civil action initiated by the Association in Defense of Gaming and Betting (Adeja). The action alleges that these companies act as intermediaries, funneling users’ funds to betting platforms operating without proper licensing in Brazil.
The São Paulo Court of Justice (TJSP) reported that the 35th Civil Court of the Capital issued an injunction requiring the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) to enforce the blockage of these sites. Judge Gustavo Henrique Bretas Marzagão, who authorized the decision, emphasized the issues posed by unregulated online gambling platforms.
At this time, neither the companies named in the lawsuit nor Anatel have publicly commented on the court’s decision. The ruling underscores the potential harm these unregulated betting sites pose to individuals and society.
According to the TJSP, the injunction follows allegations made by Adeja, which presented documents showing that the companies involved facilitate financial transactions for unlicensed betting platforms. This raises significant concerns about the lack of oversight and regulation in the online gambling sector.
