The Swedish Gambling Authority, known as Spelinspektionen, has released an evaluation of its efforts to combat illegal gambling in Sweden. In collaboration with the Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority, they have assessed the risk of money laundering and financing of terrorism in the Swedish gaming market, which has been classified as high due to the potential for large sums of money being moved through illegal gambling sites. The Swedish Government has mandated these two authorities to work together and improve the financial conditions in the country. Their joint efforts include establishing a work plan that involves sharing information, knowledge transfer, and identifying risks. Furthermore, they are focusing on how illegal gambling is facilitated, particularly through payment services. By strengthening their collaboration, they aim to enhance their supervision and block illegal gaming activities. Spelinspektionen will rely on the Financial Supervisory Authority’s expertise in payment markets, while the Financial Supervisory Authority seeks Spelinspektionen’s knowledge of the gambling industry.
