The U.S. gaming industry reached an all-time high in 2024, generating $71.92 billion in revenue, marking a 7.5% increase from the previous record of $66.5 billion in 2023. The data, released by the American Gaming Association (AGA) in February 2025, solidifies the gaming sector’s position as one of the country’s most dominant entertainment industries.
The final quarter of 2024 was particularly strong, with revenues totaling $18.62 billion, the highest quarterly earnings ever recorded. Within this total, traditional casinos contributed $12.59 billion, an increase of 2.3% year-over-year. Sports betting generated $3.66 billion, up 7.3%, while iGaming saw the most significant growth, raising $2.38 billion—a 33.1% increase.
Despite the rapid rise of online gaming and sports betting, brick-and-mortar casinos remain the primary revenue driver, bringing in $48.79 billion for the year. The enduring appeal of land-based casinos stems from their comprehensive entertainment experiences, which include gambling, live shows, and luxury hospitality.
The expansion of regulated sports betting and online gaming in new states played a significant role in the industry’s growth. In 2024, sports betting generated $13.71 billion, reflecting a 25.4% increase from 2023, while iGaming reached $8.41 billion, marking a 28.7% rise. This surge is fueled by technological advancements, improved security measures, and the increasing preference for mobile and online betting platforms.
The gaming industry’s growth has translated into substantial economic benefits, with the sector contributing approximately $15.66 billion in gaming taxes—a rise of 8.5% from the previous year. These funds were allocated to various state and municipal programs, including public education, infrastructure projects, and responsible gambling initiatives.
The future of the U.S. gaming industry remains promising, with continued demand for diverse betting options and further regulatory expansion in multiple states. Experts predict sustained growth, particularly in online gaming and sports betting, which continue to attract a growing number of players.
Bill Miller, President and CEO of the AGA, acknowledged the industry’s momentum, stating that Americans have fully embraced the broad spectrum of legal gaming options, making 2024 another record-setting year for the sector. As the industry evolves, its role as a key driver of entertainment and economic growth is expected to strengthen further.
