Maryland is also looking to adjust its gambling regulations, with Governor Wes Moore proposing a significant tax increase for the state’s gambling sector. His proposal includes raising the sports betting tax rate from 15% to 30% and increasing the table games tax from 20% to 25%. These changes would place Maryland among the highest-taxed states for gambling. The additional revenue is expected to support state programs and address concerns over gambling’s social impact.
Meanwhile, New Jersey is targeting unregulated gambling activities through a new bill aimed at legalizing and regulating sweepstakes gaming. The proposed legislation seeks to bring sweepstakes casinos under state internet gaming laws, addressing issues of consumer protection and fair competition. This move comes amid growing concerns about unregulated sweepstakes platforms, which often operate without state oversight, potentially exposing players to fraud and other risks.
